Jehovah is the name of God the Father and Jesus is the name of the Son?
Some Christians consider that “Jehovah”, the name of God in the Old Testament, is the name of the Father, and the name “Jesus” is the name of the Son. Some of those who think so argue that the name ‘Jehovah’ is a higher than the name ‘Jesus’, and eventually take the name of Jesus lightly. In Chapter 3 of “Let Us Know the Holy Spirit”, Pastor Ki-Dong Kim warns against misunderstanding God’s will due to these wrong ideas, and teaches the name ‘Jesus’ biblically.
Jesus commanded His disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt 28:19). And they baptized them in the name of ‘Jesus’ according to the command (Acts 2:38, 10:48). Ans also, Jesus said, “Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are” (John 17:11). Likewise, the name ‘Jesus’ is the name of the Triune God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The Father gave the name ‘Jesus’ to the Son, and then the Son sent the name to us by the Holy Spirit, so we are one with God. Only Jesus name is the name that saves us. “but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:31). Because God has never given us other name which we must be saved (Acts 4:11-12).
And the Bible says, “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil 2:10-11), and “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Col 3:17).
