Give to God what is God’s
(Mark 12:13-17)
Overseer Sung-Hyun Kim
God
is the Master.
Since He
made things in heaven and things on earth,
they all belong to the Creator (Ps 100:3).
However, God does not lay burdens on man as if He lacks something,
but this is so they can truly find Him (Acts 17:25-27).
Those who receive grace from God (Eph 2:8)
know what belongs to Him and obey (Mal 3:7-11),
but those who do not know God will tempt Him (Mt 4:7).
When believers in God are asked the question,
“Is it right to serve the rulers of the world?”,
He told them, “Give to God what is God’s
and give to the rulers of the world what is theirs”,
for a ‘denarius’ has the image of a king.
He said, “Offer to Caesar what is Caesar’s,
and since you possess God’s Image,
give to the Master of this Image.”
He said, “Manage worldly things according to worldly laws (Rom 13:1-7),
and manage heavenly things according to heavenly laws.”
The person of the Holy Spirit should live by the Holy Spirt (Jn 3:8).
○ Believers obey those who collect national and public taxes
and people who have spiritual faith obey the One who saves the spirit.
Discern what God gives and what you receive from your country.
○ Jesus came to the land of Judea and paid taxes to Caesar,
and He was obedient to death as the Son belonging to God.
He accepted the resurrection from God
and accepted death on the cross from Caesar.
○ It is impossible to please God without faith.
Those who come to God must believe that He rewards them.
※ They fulfill their national duty to their country
and fulfill a believer’s duty to God.
They serve both God the Father and their fleshly father (Mk 7:10-13).
