True Worship and Service
(Matthew 6:19-24)
Overseer Sung-Hyun Kim
God
is to be glorified.
He
created the universe and made all things in it (Gen 1:1).
He filled heaven with spiritual beings
and is glorified by them (Ps 8:1).
He is glorified through worship (Ps 26:8-9).
God is spirit. He told us to worship in spirit
and we go beyond the flesh and worship in spirit.
If this is not done in spirit, it is all hypocrisy and has no life.
God’s disappointment will be great (Jn 4:23-24).
Jesus became the last
sacrificial offering (1 Cor 5:7)
– and by the Holy Spirit – we worship in spirit and truth.
He wants to send spirits to heaven, but if
the heart gets tied up with the spirit, it becomes a religious ritual (Jn 13:2).
Therefore,
He told us to give offerings (Mt 6:19-20).
This is because your heart is where your treasure is (Mt 6:21).
‘Treasure’ (mammon) means ‘master’.
If you have treasure, it is the master. If you do not, it becomes a servant.
〇 Worship is serving only one Master.
Those who become servants of wealth cannot serve the Lord.
Giving offerings refers to giving up ‘mammon’.
〇 If you store up treasures in heaven, your heart is in heaven.
If you store it up on earth, your heart is on earth.
God is spirit, that is, He dwells in heaven.
〇 As heaven is the spiritual world,
it is full of God’s glory.
We believe and trust Jesus, who shows us this glory.
※ When Jesus tells us to dwell in Him, He tells us to enter heaven.
Worship is acknowledging that our Master dwells in heaven.
God is the one and only Master.
