The Lord’s Will
(Ephesians 5:17)
“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Eph 5:17). Why did the Lord say such words? Is it because His will is too profound and difficult to understand? Or is it because the devil’s interference clouds our thinking?
1. The Reason We Do Not Know
If we do not know the Lord’s will, it is because, although He has given us His Word, we fail to value it and disregard it. The devil is able to snatch the word away because we reject it instead of accepting it. The word, “understand what the will of the Lord is,” means we should set our hearts on Him, abandon the attitude of rejecting His Word, and wholeheartedly accept Him with our hearts.
2. From the Lord’s Position
When encountering a member who is actively working to destroy the church, is it in line with the Lord’s position to greet them warmly, share a meal, and have fellowship with them? When someone disrupts the faith of other believers and faces correction from the church, is it right for them to claim their rights as a member and stir up conflict? Or, when someone complains that they cannot hear the shepherd’s sermon and decides to stop listening altogether, can this truly be seen as acting according to the Lord’s will? From their own position, such actions might seem justified. However, we must strive to see everything from the Lord’s position.
3. Setting Our Hearts on the Lord
A foolish person disguises their own desires as the Lord’s will. However, the Lord’s will is recorded in the Bible and is continuously proclaimed through His shepherds. This is the same in the principles that guide our personal lives. Do you want to understand the Lord’s will? Then let us set our hearts on the Lord. Let us set our hearts to the Lord’s servant, who proclaims His will with the Lord’s heart. When we do so, we will come to fully understand His will and gain the ability to obey according to His will.
